Next Phase of Estonia’s Next-Generation 112 Service Kicks Off

The next phase in shaping Estonia’s next-generation 112 emergency service was officially launched at Stenbock House.

Representatives from the Ministry of the Interior, Häirekeskus | Estonian Emergency Response Centre, SMIT | Siseministeeriumi infotehnoloogia- ja arenduskeskus, Government Office of Estonia, CGI Estonia, Experience Design, and Proud Engineers came together to align on the roadmap ahead.

Together, the partners agreed on a structured plan for the coming months, kicking off a 9-month phase of in-depth analysis and preparation.

Key challenges to be addressed include:

  • Making emergency services more flexible and accessible for diverse groups;
  • Creating discreet help options for victims of domestic violence;
  • Enabling “whole conversation” by combining call, video, and chat in one;
  • Using SOS buttons and sensors to automatically send contextual alerts;
  • Applying real-time translation and transcription to remove language barriers;
  • Exploring how AI could support video analysis;
  • Learning from international best practices that could fit Estonia.

The vision is clear: a 112 service designed for everyone, including people with hearing or visual impairments, those living with anxiety, or victims of violence.

Because when crisis strikes, an accessible and intelligent emergency line can make the difference between life and death.
